ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (March 10, 2026) – Oro Valley will welcome athletes, families, and spectators back to James D. Kreigh Park for the Oro Valley Triathlon and Duathlon Festival on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 7 to 11 a.m. – a high-energy morning that doubles as a big win for local fun, visitor spending, and community pride.
Now in its 12th year, the festival has become one of Southern Arizona’s signature endurance weekends, drawing participants from far beyond the region. This year, 482 competitors, from 27 states and Canada are expected, ranging in age from 10 to 85. Many are first-time participants, reflecting the event’s welcoming vibe for all levels.
Why it matters for Oro Valley
While the start line and finish tape are exciting, the bigger story is what the event brings to town: a weekend boost for local hotels, restaurants, and small businesses, plus a chance to showcase Oro Valley’s scenery, amenities, and outdoor lifestyle to visitors who often return for future trips.
The festival is projected to generate nearly $100,000 in tourism-related revenue, supporting local jobs and reinforcing Oro Valley’s momentum as a sports tourism destination.
“The Oro Valley Triathlon and Duathlon Festival reflects the momentum we are building in sports tourism,” said Crystal Franke, Destination Marketing Manager for Explore Oro Valley. “Oro Valley offers the infrastructure, scenery, and community support that endurance athletes look for, and we are proud to continue strengthening our reputation as a premier destination for competition and training.”
Oro Valley’s strategy of hosting well-run outdoor events has helped position the community as a year-round hub for recreation and endurance activities. This kind of reputation pays off beyond a single weekend.
“Oro Valley’s natural beauty, ideal weather, and investment in sports infrastructure have made us a prime destination for endurance athletes,” said Paul Melcher, Community and Economic Development Director. “We are proud to welcome competitors back for the 12th annual Oro Valley Triathlon festival, reinforcing our commitment to outdoor recreation while driving economic benefits for local businesses.”
