Description
The golden hour over the Catalinas does not ease in gradually. It arrives all at once — copper and amber flooding the ridgelines, purple shadows pooling in the canyons, the sky going coral and peach and lavender above it all. It is the kind of light that makes people stop what they are doing and look west. Catalina Sunset Glow holds that moment still.
A saguaro anchors the foreground, its arms raised against the burning sky, while the Catalina Mountains fill the background in the full warmth of alpenglow — ridges and peaks painted in shades that only exist for a few minutes at the end of a good desert day. The desert floor stretches between foreground and mountains in warm earth tones, brittlebush and creosote, and scattered saguaros, all softened by the diffused evening light. The composition moves from the strong vertical of the foreground cactus across the horizontal sweep of the range, the warm golds and oranges balanced by the cool purples settling into the valleys below.
This is the Sonoran Desert transitioning from the intensity of afternoon into the quiet of evening — the harsh light gone, the warmth staying a little longer, the whole landscape exhaling.
Available on canvas, fine art paper, and select metal and acrylic mountings. The warm color gradations and the luminosity of the alpenglow perform beautifully on metal, while canvas and fine art paper offer a softer, more painterly presentation suited to living spaces that call for warmth over drama.
