The Rillito River Band brings vintage rock and roll to life with the authentic sound of Tucson’s rich musical heritage. Named for the location where they first came together—a building on the banks of Tucson’s Rillito River—these longtime Old Pueblo musicians blend influences from mariachi, folk, and classic rock into unforgettable performances.
Their setlist spans rock’s golden era, featuring songs from The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Thin Lizzy, Van Morrison, The Eagles, The Beach Boys, The Kinks, The Knack, and Tommy James, along with original material.
The Band:
Oscar Chavez (lead vocals, guitar, bass) grew up performing in Tex-Mex bands and has played for President George W. Bush. Russell Long (songwriter, harmony vocals, finger-style guitar, bass) has been rocking stages since age 14 in rock, folk, and bluegrass bands, including Rocky & His Friends. John McCaleb (lead guitar, rhythm guitar, vocals) ranks among Tucson’s finest improvisational and finger-style guitarists, adding country flavor to the mix. Master drummer “Cowboy” Mike Joyal (formerly of The Last Call Girls) rounds out the rhythm section.
Both Oscar and Russell have been inducted into the Tucson Musicians’ Museum Hall of Fame. Together, they create a dynamic show featuring delicate three and four-part harmonies, haunting love songs, raucous rock and roll, and engaging stage presence that keeps audiences entertained.
