Artists will paint and photograph the incredible scenery surrounding the Ranch.  Visitors to the Ranch will see plein air artists capturing on canvas the beauty of the Catalinas\, the culturally significant historic buildings on the Ranch\, and the sustainable foods and flowers growing in the Heritage Garden. SUMMARY:Museum Treasures Meet United Way's Day of Caring
DESCRIPTION:Big changes continue at the Oro Valley Historical Society\, as we digitize our full collection to make history easier to explore. During this process\, we’ve brought out seldom‑seen artifacts for visitors to enjoy while our rotating exhibits take a break. The Museum is open for you to see those artifacts\, and volunteers will be on site to answer questions and provide additional information.  Self-guided tours of the Museum are complimentary\, with donations gratefully accepted to help us keep Oro Valley history alive. \nToday\, we will be welcoming volunteers in connection with United Way’s Day of Caring program from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.  Volunteers will be working in the Heritage Garden to perform services such as watering\, planting seeds\, picking vegetables\, digging holes to either plant trees or irrigation lines\, and designing an area to replicate corn grinding and seed sorting\, spreading wood chips\, and preparing new garden beds. This will definitely give our visitors an opportunity to see what it takes to make a Heritage Garden bloom!

DESCRIPTION:There’s a LOT going on at the Ranch today – read on for all the activities! \nFirst\, the Oro Valley Historical Society invites you to visit the Pusch House Museum to see pieces from our collection you may not have seen before.  As we modernize our archives through digitization\, we are sharing pieces that are usually tucked safely in storage. Our exhibit rotation will pause\, but the stories won’t.  Our volunteers will be on site to answer questions and provide additional information.  Self-guided tours of the Museum are complimentary\, with donations gratefully accepted to help us keep Oro Valley history alive! \nOn the Ranch today\, we will have the first-place prize of the Jim Click raffle – the Nissan Frontier Pro-4X Roush Edition vehicle.  You’ll be able to see what you could win while supporting the Oro Valley Historical Society.  All money raised goes directly back to the Society due to Jim Click’s generosity!  Buy your tickets ($25.00 each or 5 for $100.00) from one of our volunteers.  We appreciate your support. \nAlso\, our naturalist will be back giving gentle one-hour tours of Steam Pump Ranch where you will learn about the people\, plants\, animals\, and geology of our area.  Tours start at 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. at the Pusch House Museum and end at the Society-maintained Heritage Garden\, where you can enter a replica of a Tohono O’odham pit house. \nThe Sonoran Plein Air Painters will be on site from 8 a.m. to noon\, looking for the perfect vantage point from which to capture the incredible views of our community.  You can interact with them as they paint their chosen location\, whether it’s the Heritage Garden\, the chicken coops\, or the front patio of the Pusch House Museum.  Art will bring Oro Valley history to life! \nWe also welcome back Gap Ministries as part of our Be Our Ranch Guest program\, supporting local non-profits.  Volunteers will be on site with their request for spices\, condiments (ketchup\, mayonnaise\, etc.)\, peanut butter\, jelly\, syrup\, canned goods (pasta sauce\, vegetables\, beans\, meat)\, and boxed goods (rice\, cereal\, pancake mix).  Your donation can make a difference. \nShop the Heirloom Farmers’ Market\, learn Oro Valley history\, and support the Oro Valley Historical Society and Gap Ministries.

Peace Poles are an iconic symbol of “May Peace Prevail On Earth International\,” founded in Japan over fifty years ago.  It is estimated that there are over 200\,000 Peace Poles worldwide\, planted on every continent over many decades.  The peace pole’s message of peace is written on four sides in English\, Mandarin\, Spanish\, and Tohono O’odham.

DESCRIPTION:The Oro Valley Historical Society continues its informative exhibit – America’s Semiquincentennial and Arizona Statehood in the Pusch House Museum at historic Steam Pump Ranch.  How soon after the U.S. won its independence did Arizona become a state?  Our friendly volunteers will answer your questions and provide additional information.  Entrance to the Museum is free with donations gratefully accepted.\n\nIn addition\, our naturalist will take you on a gentle one-hour guided tour of the Ranch sharing information about the people and plants who occupied and still occupy this space.  The tour will end in the Society maintained Heritage Garden where you will see plants that have been a part of our diet for thousands of years.  Also on display is a replica of a Hohokam pit house so that you can see how Indigenous people lived in Oro Valley before we did.\n\nAnd\, we will welcome back Gap Ministries as they make their request for bathroom items\, including toilet bowl cleaner\, toilet brushes\, toilet bowl plunger\, and toilet paper\, along with air fresheners.  Help those in need with some things we need every day!

DESCRIPTION:At the Pusch House Museum on historic Steam Pump Ranch this past month\, the Oro Valley Historical Society has shared with visitors the journey it took for America to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its founding.  Starting today\, the Society will take a look at this semiquincentennial celebration in conjunction with Arizona’s statehood\, 114 years ago.  Self-guided tours of the Museum are free\, with donations gratefully accepted. Volunteers will be available to answer questions and provide additional information. \nIn addition\, Habitat for Humanity will be at the Pusch House Museum collecting new and gently used home items to help local families gain independence.  Don’t send these items to a landfill.  Instead\, bring them to Steam Pump Ranch to donate to the HabiStore to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity’s mission.  Items needed include – \n\nFurniture: sofas\, tables\, chairs\, cabinets\, and bedroom sets.\nAppliances: working refrigerators\, stoves\, washers\, and dryers.\nHome Improvement: Windows\, doors\, lighting fixtures\, and tools.\nBuilding Materials: Unused paint\, lumber\, flooring\, and hardware.\nHome Goods: Rugs\, art\, decor\, and patio furniture.\n\nIf you can’t bring an item\, contact HabiStore for a free pick-up \nMake space in your home while giving those in our community a new home! \nWe also welcome Gap Ministries back to Steam Pump Ranch with their request for donations of resealable plastic bags\, canned vegetables\, and dish soap for use in their kitchens.

DESCRIPTION:Today is the last day to visit the Pusch House Museum at historic Steam Pump Ranch to view the America’s Semiquincentennial exhibit featuring the reasons and the events that led to the formation of the United States.  Tours are self-guided\, and volunteers will be on site to answer questions and provide additional information.  There is no charge for entrance to the Museum\, and donations are gratefully accepted. \nJoin our naturalist for a walk around the Ranch to learn more about the people who lived there as well as the flora and fauna of our desert surroundings.  Complimentary one-hour tours are scheduled at 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.\, and end at the Society-managed Heritage Garden\, where you can visit the replica of a Hohokam pit house. \nJohn Barthelme\, archaeologist and Heritage Garden volunteer\, will give a demo on stone tool making in the Heritage Garden between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. with obsidian for tool making\, goggles\, gloves\, and band-aids. Also on display will be plastic replica human and pre-human skulls\, as well as various African animal bones. Adults and children welcome! \nWe welcome Gap Ministries back to Steam Pump Ranch with their request for donations of resealable plastic bags\, canned vegetables\, and dish soap for use in their kitchens.
