Oro Valley Theater Company Presents: Deathtrap

Next month, the Oro Valley Theater Company will be performing Ira Levin’s 1978 classic, Deathtrap at the Gaslight Music Hall. Deathtrap holds the record for the longest running thriller on Broadway. It was nominated for four Tony Awards, and later adapted into a major motion picture starring Christopher Reeve and Michael Caine.

The plot is centered around Sidney Bruhl, a successful playwright who ran into financial trouble after his recent work flopped at the box office. When his student, Clifford Anderson, sends him a play he has written, he deems it a certain hit and jokes with his wife that he might kill him to steal the script for himself. Sidney decides to invite him over under the pretense of offering him advice.

Deathtrap is known to be one of the biggest hits on Broadway. It ran for four full years, showcasing more than 1800 performances. It has since graced theaters worldwide. The plot has all of the basic components of thrillers and horror, including murder, deceit, and killer dialogue. It’s wicked, clever, and shocking–a show you won’t want to miss.

The Oro Valley Theater Company is a relatively new ensemble. Artistic Director Judi Rodman produced their first play Our Town in 2017, and the group has been playing the Gaslight Music Hall ever since then. They’re known for their diverse range, offering musicals, thrillers, period pieces, and drama. They always deliver. Showings will be on November 9th, 13th, and 20th.
